Never knew about this movie until now. They had an ad for the Superbowl, but there were ads out in December already. Sadly, it's not a "real" movie, it's all scripted. But I'll probably watch it anyway.

Sure good actors like Johnny Depp can play many different characters, but can he act many different ways with the same glare? I think not. Steven Seagal is the MAN.

Movie Review: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is a great movie, I will give it a 8.5/10

As you can tell from trailers, it's about a monkey that's been raised by a scientist who is given genetic therapy to make his brain cells as smart as a human. That scientist is played by James Franco. I have to say, no matter how much Franco is labelled a douchebag, I think he is a great actor. Also, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter) once again plays a major douchebag. Where is Hermione when he deserves a punch to the face?!! On the subject of science ... like XMen first class, the way they present neuroscience and biochemistry is amazing. They make science look fun! I wish real life studying was this fun :/

Anyway, without giving away a spoiler here, I will just say that it's a great movie because it's like a "coming of age movie" combined with some action. There's also a hidden political agenda in this movie. The movie is telling us that humans as a whole are too prideful. We think we can make animals suffer in experiments so that we can find cures for ourselves. We are also too hateful. If you watch a movie about a coming of age story where an adolescent from a bad neighborhood absorbs hate and bitterness from his community and continues that legacy, we aren't surprised because we expect it. But have a monkey learn to hate because of his experiences with humans? Damn that's some strong commentary on our society.

All gloominess aside, the ending does shine some light on our prospects for the future. Just as a person has the capability to learn to hate, we have the capability to learn how to be fair and to have courage to take action against injustice. Sorry for the vagueness, but I want you all to enjoy watching this movie!

Childhood MacNugget: Top 5 favorite movie intros

I was listening to random music when a Tron soundtrack came on. I decided to find the video on youtube cause I forgot how the intro was exactly. And then I looked up other intros that came to me off the top of my head. These are my favorite 5.

5) Terminator 2

Comments/thoughts: Fire everywhere. Swingset on fire, death of innocence and humanity. I feel depressed, but I turn my anger towards the robots and put my hope in John Connor.

4) Tron Legacy

Comments/thoughts: That Disney intro was pretty damn cool, second only to the pirate castle intro in Pirates of the Caribbean. I saw this movie in the theater and this movie had such good effects but it was the dramatic music that continually send chills down my spine. Especially when the TRON title logo pops up.

3) Lion King

Before we took any foreign language in high school, all my classmates knew some Swahili: Naaa svenyaa babadi chibaba! This movie and intro is forever epic.

2) The Rock

This is my favorite action movie of all time. I swear it's non-stop action and it also has a good story line. And the intro just tells you the emotion in General Hummel. The part where the soldier says "they're not coming for us are they sir?" still makes me soo saat. Oh shit he has a Medal of Honor? why did he give it away? What is he gonna do?! I need to find out!

1) Top Gun

This movie isn't that great, I'd give it a 7/10. But it's just the way the F-14 comes out of the darkness symbolizing the strength and shield of America. The whirring of the blizzard makes you believe that no matter what hazardous conditions, this brave warrior will be there to protect you. Serving during the height of the cold war, the carrier borne F-14's capability to shoot down enemy planes 100 miles away with the Phoenix missile was a big "Come get some" to the commies. I was brainwashed by this movie as a kid, but geez being brainwashed never felt so cool. Also, the way the music starts at the Paramount studio screen when the stars fly by the mountains have changed the way I see all Paramount movies. Now I hear the drumbeat start in my head during the Paramount screen. Example: when I watched Captain America and Transformers, during the Paramount slide, I started hearing Top Gun music.

Things they all have in common: Epic music. The title screen/logo appears dramatically and goes with the music. They all start in darkness/dawn and gradual get brighter to day. And all of them give this emotion of an unseen force that draws you in to find out more. And I guess it's a feature of movies with cool dramatic intros that they also have good action and effects. Even Lion King had revolutionary drawings for its time. Do you remember the star filled sky when Mufasa talks to Simba about the past kings. I was a 2nd grader in a theater and I thought I was looking into the heavens. I think another thing they have in common is that I would happily buy any of these movies on Blu-ray (due to awesome visual and sound effects and soundtrack).

XMen First Class : almost a 10

I really really liked this movie for many many reasons. I give it an overall rating of 9/10. This movie really strikes nearly every fiber of my being: things that I like to study and have interest in, and personalities that attract me. Since there are many reasons, I'll just list them out in bullet form.

1) Action. Of course you knew this movie would have lots of it. Mutant superpowers, guns, ships, spy planes, and nukes. But if it was action alone I'd probably only give this movie 7 out of 10. The other reasons below are why I loved this movie.

2) History. I like watching historical documentaries. The history books will tell you what happened, but documentaries really put you in the character's shoes and tell you the why. This movie's time span occurred during World War II and during the Cold War, easily the second and third most entertaining periods of US History (only behind the golden years of the presidency of William McKinley which brought about the 2% increase of US Naval strength, along with a GDP increase of 1% to encourage a population boom of 0.3%). Kidding on the last part... seriously though, I am a history buff, so this movie got extra props from me when they included real footage of President Kennedy.

3) Black Ops. This period in history is full of human experiments by the Nazis, and studies of paranormal psychic powers by the US military (seriously, watch The Men Who Stare at Goats ). It's also a period of conspiracy and double spies, with governments not being able to trust their own agents. Also, its the age of the nuclear arms battle. This is the perfect setting for a movie about mutants with superpowers who work for the USA/USSR to bring down the other side.

4) Intelligence, Charm, Chivalry. I want to be like Charles Xavier (Professor X). He is a genius of genetical biology. And he uses his intelligence and gentlemanly ways to charm women. Bruce Wayne has swag, and Charles Xavier has charm (and Thor has both). Its cool because it's like seeing a version of me that I can be. I can't pull off swag because I'm too goofy, but charm is something I can definitely do. Also Charles always takes the high road. He literally turns the other cheek in many cases. He believes in the goodness of humans. He's pretty much the MLK of the mutant world, and MLK is one of my idols.

5) Yin and Yang. I've always been amazed at the idea of two men who would otherwise be friends, become enemies because of irreconcilable difference. We see this happen in parallel in this movie: between America and Russia, and Professor X and Magneto.

6) Psychology and the human condition. I love movies that show me how a villain became a villain. The tragedy of Magneto's childhood was too much to bear. It imprinted his heart with hate, and he dedicated his life to revenge. Unfortunately when Magneto gets his revenge, his heart isn't filled with love. He still has hate and to continue to have a purpose in life, he finds an outlet to redirect his hate: the humans. There's also the story of Mystique, who started on Charles side. But all she wants to be is accepted and loved for who she is. This is why she leaves for Magneto's side. We all need acceptance as humans. It's the same reason why youth join gangs, its the only group that will accept them. I find developmental psychology to be very interesting. That's what makes this film awesome. The study of the character is what makes good films great.

This movie is as close as it comes to getting a 10/10. I can't quite give it though. I don't know what I need to give a movie a 10, but I have to leave the movie theater with a heightened sense of duty and purpose in my life. This movie does that for me. Of course that means romance and comedies will never become a 10 for me because of my rigorous standards. But I like all types of movies. It's just that these certain types of movies appeal to me because it strums every string in my body.

But at the same time a 10 movie has to be good enough that I would not mind watching it once a year for the rest of my life. I don't see myself wanting to see this movie again. Not that it's boring, but I just wouldn't feel like watching it again.

Here are the short list of movies I can think off the top of my head that I would list as 10/10:

What makes you look away during a movie?

So I finished watching 127 hours this evening. I thought the movie was a 7 at tops, but this is not a movie review so I'll stick to the topic of "What makes you look away during a movie?" aka got dam this is nasty I can't look at it anymore.

For me, I just could not stand watching the guy stab himself! Granted, I just finished dinner so I was fully loaded, but dam I felt sick watching! I had to stand up and walk in circles to get away from the TV.

2 min 20 seconds is the scene I'm talking about:



I was a bit shocked that my body had this reaction. I now know that I can't stand see someone inflict pain on themselves such as the guy stabbing himself. The blood was fine and dandy. I was telling my sister that I can watch someone being shot and bleeding out, but dam I can't take this stabbing!

So what kind of scenes make you turn away? I know for Andy it would be any scary monster scene. I also know others that couldn't stand watching the neddle pit scene in one of the Saw movies. I'm including the scene below for those that have not seen it.



I found this 127 hours remake with Lego pieces. Pretty funny if you've seen the movie.

WTF!!??!!

Was my first initial reaction when I saw the rest of the ladies of N Krew posting on BiA. I have now cooled a bit and am ready to welcome you two girls to BiA. However, to be a true baller, one must watch the following series of awesome BiA approved movies:

1) Missing in Action I, II, III

2) RoboCop I, II, III

Moment in Movies When I Realized the Movie was Badass

In every action movie, there is an ultimate climactic fighting scene. In those same action movies, there is an early action scene that is on a much smaller scale, sometimes one on one. But sometimes they're so badass they make you excited pre-maturely (that's what she said). These scenes are defined by the neccessity of the situation. Early on, the character wants to be quiet and hidden. But the culmination of factors makes them take action. There's usually some great memorable quotes too. Without further delay, I give you my fav five. (modern movies only, otherwise all five would feature Chuck Norris).

5. Blood Diamond
Quote: "I like me shoot that pink ass mon"
Analysis: You ever have someone trash talk you to your face, which makes you want to slap them upside the head? This scene is a few levels above that. This movie also tells me that people with the HK USP are highly trained operatives with a quick draw and high double tap accuracy. But that's just a stereotype right?


4. Robocop
Quote: "Aaaaahhh!"
Analysis: This isn't what robocop's program intended when it told him to take a headshot. Also, the Robocop actor was Barack Obama before he became Senator and dyed his skin black.

Analysis: The moment you realized Arnold isn't a bad guy. Epic. I also feel bad for that can of Pepsi.

Analysis: It was tough to place Training Day at #2, but the supreme technique in Tom Cruise's quick draw and double tap was too much. He even headshotted the second guy as his body was falling to the floor. Guess what pistol he's using. You guessed it, HK USP. I guess everyone with a USP has aimbot.

Holiday Season Recap, a youtube splurging post

First of all, I'd like to do a quick review of the movies I saw in December.

Next 3 Days: 9/10

The Next 3 Days was about a man who's life is turned upside down when his wife is accused of murder and locked up in prison. He tries everything he can to get a re-trial or find ways to lesson the sentence. But with time running down until she is transported from a local jail to a maximum security prison, he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. This sounds like an okay movie, until you realize the man is this movie is Russel Crowe. The director also gets credit here too, because he develops a story line in which Crowe has to make tough choices. When you have such great character development, it makes a movie/book/tv show very enjoyable. In the end, I almost start rooting against the protagonist, but understand that a man must do what a man must do. It's like watching Jack Bauer evade cops, sure its bad for the cops, but Jack has to do it.

Tron : 8.5/10

Tron was about a kid who lost his dad when he was 13ish, only to find out in his 20s that his dad was warped into a game world. Unfortunately the dad made a clone of himself to help run the digital world, but the clone's vision of a perfect world was much different. So the real dad lives in exile, until the son comes which changes everything. The center of this world is the Arena, where combatants battle for glory with light/laser-motorcycles, and the spinning disc that Predator uses. The downside to this movie is that they tried to put in a complicated background story, but they never really flush it out. They shoulda either not included it, or gone deeper. But the graphics and music are amazing. That in itself made this movie enjoyable to me. You'll like this movie alot of you like techno and electronica. Here's an example of two songs from Tron:

This music started when they were entering a club, and Andy told me that the movie was gonna turn into a porno right then and there. I totally believed him.

And then this song is the ending credits music. I love this song. I remember standing up and clapping. Then I think I gave Andy a high five. YES good times with Andy!

Christmas play and dances were fun. I'm amazed how easy it seemed to us after 3-4 practices, when I just wanted to cry after the first practice. Good job guys!

The only downside is that we're gonna miss Vianney again. What a great guy! I mean, he deserves an Oscar for his performance here:

at 5 seconds, he is thinking very hard, with his hand under his chin.

at 15 seconds, he tries out the bitter herb meal, and doesn't like it.

at 20 seconds, he double checks to see if he has sandals on, and a walking stick in his hand.

at 25 seconds, he's checking if his junk is still in the trunk.

LMAO at 35 seconds Bao does something incredibly historically inaccurate.

at 50 seconds, Vianney goes for another bite of bitter herb.

and finally at the 1 minute mark, the magic begins.

most actors would have too much pride to hide behind a little kid, but not V-Man! He braves all scenes!

at 1:20, I have no words to describe such greatness. He truly left me in tears (of laughter)

at 1:47 he decides to be hungry again, while no one else eats. but it tastes good this time! maybe the basic solution in his tears neutralized the acidic herbs?

3:39 I like the slap. Overacting justified here!

at 4:37 the soldiers should have all fell when Bao closed his arms. But they didnt, so I went down way too early compared to my soldiers. I literally had to pull on Alex's leg to get him down.

All in all, what a great December! I forget that another downside is that we're trading Vianney for this gun nut from Nebraska.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! Part 1: The Fellowship of the Hallows

If you don't follow the series, all you need to know about the last book is that the evil Voldemort has taken control of the wizarding world and government and they are hunting down the remaining good guys left fighting. Therefore, Harry and his friends hide and live on the run.

Will Harry and Hermione's new wands help them defeat Voldemort? Will Ron finally buy a reliable wand that won't snap in half (Hi-Point wands)? Will this half-movie be worth full fare? There's only one way to find out, go see the movie!

Of course this isn't the first time the Potters have stood up Voldemort. Harry's great-grandfather Daniel Craig Potter led a group of brave people to live in Defiance of Lord Voldemort and his Wizardly Third Reich:

Salt Review

So I went to the supermarket today and tried Morton's new diet salt with iodine, and boy does it taste great. It makes that sizzle in your mouth like how diet Coke has more fizz than normal Coke. But once again we have the same dilemma. Would you rather have cancer or high blood pressure? You already know my solution to the problem!

Afterwards I was inspired to see the movie Salt before noon for the low price of $6.00 There was a fair amount of gun action (them CIA agents make Sigs look good!) However it felt less like a movie and more like an episode of 24. I feel that thriller spy movies either need ridiculous action (like Pierce Brosnan 007) or intense character development (like Daniel Crag 007), or else it falls flat. This movie falls flat. Agent Salt doesn't have the swag of Agent 47, nor the personality development of Agent Bourne, nor the "OMG did he just do that?!" of Agent Bauer. As a result I never truly cared what happens to her. Also Angelina Jolie spoiled me with Wanted, in which she made my jaw drop every time she did something. But overall I enjoyed it, and it won't be a waste of money for admission. But it's not a must see. I recommend this for a DVD on a rainy day. Rating= 7/10

Movie Reviews:
-Kick Ass: Starring Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, & Nicolas Cage. A surprisingly good movie. Best characters hands down are Hit Girl and Big Daddy. They looked awesome in the trailer and even better in the movie. Really well choreographed shooting and fighting scenes. This movie gets a stamp of approval with a rating of 8/10.

-Karate Kid: Starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Very good movie. This is a very thoughtful and deep movie. Sometimes it can remind you of the original Karate Kid but i can assure you that Mr Miyagi has not been disrespected. Jackie Chan is the bees knees. This movie gets the stamp of approval with a rating of 8/10.

-A-Team: Starring Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, & Sharlto Copley. First off, Jessica Biel is gorgeous. Second off, this group of actors definitely had the chemistry needed to represent the A-Team . This was one of the most entertaining movies I have seen. & as always, Liam Neeson delivers a spectacular preformance. Did i mention Jessica Biel is gorgeous? =] This movie gets a stamp of approval with a rating of 10/10. Jessica Biel also gets a stamp of approval with a rating of 10/10.

Breaking common practice for someone you care about is always worth it.
