of course it's legal in CA. but there's always a moral component to self defense. ethically speaking, i would propose that you're only allowed to stop someone with lethal force if they intend to physically harm you. so if someone breaks into my window and i get him in the back with buckshot without warning, it's probably not morally okay. legally, its okay. but if he comes in and sees me with a boomstick and still moves towards me like some crazy maniac, GG.
the only case where I would say it's okay to get the drop on the burglar is if he's wielding a knife or gun. That is to say, he's there for assault and battery rather than just thievery. But you have to know for sure.
In this case, the women boarded her door with a couch, and the man still came in with a fucking bowie knife. this was more than thievery for sure. she is legally and morally in the clear.
Cases like this prove why i believe what i believe. sure i think guns are fun, but my support is not based on being macho or protecting a way of life or defending against the guvment, as rednecks would say. firearms were made so that the righteous could be on a level playing field with the evil. modern women do not need men to protect them, which is a good thing.

I absolutely agree with your reasoning. After this story, I see guns in a different light and find appreciation for them oddly enough.
lol, luckily this woman saw guns in a different light before a tragic incident occurred. Glad she and her kid are safe.
